Making the media allies of the ecological transition and fighting climate disinformation

QuotaClimat is working with citizens, businesses, associations, politicians, scientists and journalists to challenge together the need for media treatment that meets the ecological crisis.

Issues

The IPCC’s 6th report recalls that the media play a crucial role in shaping perceptions, understanding and the public’s willingness to act on climate change. The challenges related to climate change represent less than 3% of subjects treated in the media while, in comparison, COVID during the peak of the pandemic represented 75%. At the same time, according to the European Observatory for Digital Media, climate disinformation explodes and accounted for 11% of the total disinformation recorded in 2024. Faced with this observation, the QuotaClimat association was formed in early 2022, in the middle of the French presidential campaign, to challenge the low place of the ecological crisis in the media agenda and mobilize journalists and media.

Actions

QuotaClimat works with citizens, companies, associations, politicians, scientists and journalists to challenge the need for media treatment that meets the ecological crisis and the production of sufficient, accurate and quality environmental information directed towards action rather than inertia. The action of the association is based on three privileged axes: Interpellation & Citizen Mobilization, Data Production, and Advocacy.

Mirova Foundation supported QuotaClimat during its crowdfunding campaign in January 2024, which raised more than 50,000 euros. By mobilizing 10,000 euros for the structuring of the association, this decisive support gave it the means to act at a pivotal moment for the start of its actions. This has resulted in the creation of a permanent team, keystone essential to carry out the various missions of the association.
