Combating hygiene and menstrual poverty and infant malnutrition

Humanity Diaspo works to combat hygiene and menstrual poverty and infant malnutrition, which are major obstacles to social integration for many women, mothers and students. Its programmes, in particular the ‘Molly - Urgences précarités’ application, are based on the circular economy and the solidarity of economic players to create a virtuous and inclusive system.

Issues

Insecurity has worsened considerably as a result of the health crisis. Access to essential food and non-food products has become a daily challenge, right down to the most basic necessities: washing, feeding the family, and having access to menstrual products. These are all areas in which Humanity Diaspo, like other associations helping the most disadvantaged, has seen an exponential increase in the number of people it serves since 2020. In total, the NGO has already helped more than 318,000 people since 2018.

Actions

Since 2018, the NGO Humanity Diaspo has been supporting the most disadvantaged sections of the population so that they can become more self-sufficient and return to a path of socio-professional integration – particularly women and young girls. The association is facing two major challenges: ensuring its structural development and more widely deploying its actions to combat lack of access to hygiene and menstrual care, as well as infant malnutrition.

With the support of Mirova Foundation, the NGO is embarking on a development programme. The aims are to consolidate its impact measurement and methodology, expand its network of partners and enhance the skills of its teams. Among the many initiatives undertaken by Humanity Diaspo, Mirova Foundation’s support will also be directed towards a Tech for Good project: ‘Molly – Urgences précarités’, the first French application to combat hygiene, menstrual and infant poverty. The concept is to make the most of donations of surplus or stock intended for destruction by companies and redistribute them free of charge, using geolocation, to people who need them.
