Issues
French forests cover one third of the country’s mainland surface, or some 17 million hectares, and it is essential to ensure that they be preserved and adapted to climate change to maintain their many ecosystem services (water cycle, carbon capture, soil protection). And with 3.3 million private owners involved, the challenge is to help owners of forests improve long-term management in light of the diversity of economic (timber production, energy production) and cultural activities (welcoming the general public) to which French forests are central.
Actions
Sylv’ACCTES is an association that has been helping to build the forests of tomorrow since 2016, financing forestry actions that systematically have a positive impact on the climate, biodiversity and landscapes by deploying programmes on a regional scale. Since it was set up, the association has undertaken actions in 29 partner forest areas, for some 8,100 hectares of forestry work carried out and 5.6 million euros invested. Backed by its forestry expertise, Sylv’ACCTES provides guidance and support to forest owners who are committed to sustainable silvicultural management that respects the specific characteristics of the region and of the way forests work. Mirova Foundation has become the main sponsor in the scaling up of the association’s activities in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Île-de-France.
The aim is also to ensure a strong mediation and consultation approach with other players in the forest ecosystem.
Key figures

Our support
- Financial support for three years to assist with scaling-up, notably as primary sponsor for the projects in Ile-de-France and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
- Skill-based sponsorship: technical assistance in fine tuning the strategy and economic model, as well as support for fundraising thanks to the contributions of a member of the research team specialised in agro-forestry issues.
