Mirova Foundation and Watt For Change have selected 2 new projects promoting green energy in Africa

As part of the ongoing partnership established in 2021 between Mirova Foundation and Watt For Change, VALOREM‘s endowment fund, the projects supported abroad focus on renewable energy development as well as technologies such as methanisation and biofuels to meet the challenges of electrification and access to energy in rural areas. These solutions, which are cost-effective and environmentally friendly, facilitate the creation of micro-businesses, provide reliable sources of energy for health facilities and improve conditions for access to education.

For this we turn to Senegal and Benin, where Mirova Foundation and Watt For Change will support associations working to promote green energy:

  • ADSCAL (‘Association pour le Développement Socioculturel d’Agnam Lidoubé’) on the project to install solar overs at 3 traditional bread-making bakeries in the village of Agnam Lidoubé, as well as an oven for the pastry making of a group of 8 village women. Like all of the Sahel, the village of Agnam Lidoubé suffers chronically from the consequences of climate change, particularly the gradual loss of tree cover and the consequent shortage of firewood and charcoal.
  • GERES on a project that aims to promote low-carbon development in rural areas of Benin through access to energy for productive uses and energy efficiency. Some 35 very small enterprises (VSEs) will gain access to energy solutions enabling them to develop their business.

In addition, a renewal of our support was approved for the Accesmad association for the years 2025 and 2026 on a program to strengthen the skills of the staff of high schools previously equipped with “solar computers” in Madagascar.
