Mirova Foundation works alongside the project leaders we support, championing the causes they defend and the solutions they offer to strike a chord with our collective voice. To this end, Mirova Foundation was a partner of the So Good MAIF Festival’s 2nd edition, held in Marseille on 12, 20, and 21 September.
A photo exhibition designed for a wide audience
Between the 19th and the 21st of September, more than 8,000 attendees of the So Good MAIF Festival flocked to the Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille to participate in an immersive photographic journey to the heart of the Alps, the Andes and the Himalaya, an experience designed to raise public awareness of the issues involved in glacial melt and highlight the mobilisation underway in the world of sports to support environmental causes.
Our support for Riding to Explore and Sport for Future
The meeting with the world-class sports figures Armelle Courtois (kite-surfing) and Martin Thomas (canoeing/kayak) gave rise to an initial round of Mirova Foundation support for their Riding to Explore adventure, which now continues with Sport for Future and the realisation of this photo exhibition, with a new format to ensure we reach even more people!
- Thanks to the power of spectacular and never-before-seen images of kitesurfing on the world’s highest lakes, deep in the Alps the Andes and the Himalaya, Riding to Explore places the sporting challenge of these two professional athletes in the service of environmental awareness, thanks to documentaries for the general public and Sport For Future meet-ups with other high-level sports figures.
- Mirova Foundation is also backing Sport for Future for a 3rd edition, to take place from 30 September through 4 October in Chamonix, with fifteen professional sportsmen and women, as well as Olympic medallists in attendance.
The photo exhibition will continue to travel and will be in Chamonix to coincide with Sport for Future.
Mobilising the world of sport on behalf of climate issues, a critical endeavour
In this Olympic year, 48 athletes convened with The Climate Workout collective to imagine how the 2048 Olympic Games could take place in a world compliant with the Paris Agreement. Various scenarios were presented at a round table entitled ‘Sport 2048: The Games beyond 2024’ which brough together athletes (including Armelle Courtois and Michaël Jeremiasz), sponsors, media and sporting federations.
This support on the part of Mirova Foundation is in addition to that provided, as part of our partnership with WWF France, to the ‘Ice & Life’ research project spearheaded by glaciologist Jean-Baptiste Bosson, which looks at post-glacial ecosystems.
